One customer of ours is in the process to evaluate the switch from a pure Domino database environment to a mixed Domino 8 and DB/2 9.1 environment, because he believes that Domino databases are not as good as Oracle or DB/2 databases in performance with bigger databases and real time transactions.
The topics which will be tested and evaluated are:
- Domino 8 native database performance vs Domino 8 databases on DB/2 9.1 Windows 2003 R2 x64 server on the same hardware
- DB/2 9.1 on a seperate hardware, and connection via TCPIP from the Domino 8 server
- both of above on a IBM pSeries server (4-8 POWER6 CPUs)
- the customer would like want to see also comparative results on Oracle databases, but the problem is that Oracle doesn't provide free versions to test
The workshop with IBM will be held on 2007-10-24 - 2007-10-25, where also one of the best (if not THE best) DB/2 experts of IBM in the world will speak and instruct, after which I will blog a comprehensive report about the individual performance measures on my Blog ( http://siipi.com/public/mika.nsf/blogs/CBFA3FEE06D1478CC2257376005ED4F3 ).
